Secret Road Music Publishing, Songspace and Martin Guitars announce $20,000 "Pub Deal" Contest

NASHVILLE, TN (Feb. 26th, 2014) - Leading music licensing, publishing and management company Secret Road has teamed up with music technology startup Songspace and world renowned instrument maker Martin Guitar to present the 2nd annual “Pub Deal,” a contest to win a one-year, $20,000 publishing contract, open to songwriters and artists of all genres. In addition to taking home a non-recoupable $20,000 advance, the winning artist will work with Secret Road throughout the year to build their repertoire and market their songs for licensing in film and TV.

Twenty-five finalists will be announced and featured on AmericanSongwriter.com. This group will be narrowed down to five, who will each be invited to participate in an exclusive audition process that includes a series of interviews with Secret Road’s staff as well as co-writing sessions with their songwriters. The contest will be powered by Songspace, a Nashville-based startup and partner company of American Songwriter Magazine. The Songspace platform gives artists an intuitive way to organize the art and business of songwriting.

Secret Road Announces Expansion to London

Secret Road Music Services is proud to announce the addition of established music industry partners Jo Hart and Sara Lord to the Secret Road family. Jo and Sara represent Secret Road in London, UK, serving as Secret Road’s London base, thereby further expanding the company’s reach in international territories.

Jo Hart got her start at EMI Music in 1990, gaining over 23 years of music industry experience with focus in radio promotion, marketing and artist management. Operating as an independent music consultant for the bulk of her career, Jo has had great success working with luminaries such as Justin Timberlake, Blondie, Usher, TLC, Britney Spears, R. Kelly, Papa Roach, Boyz II Men, Counting Crows, Ingrid Michaelson, Imogen Heap, Jools Holland, Dame Shirley Bassey, Tori Amos, Simply Red, Bjork, Jamie Cullum, Eagles, Diana Ross, Tina Turner, Marilyn Manson, N'Sync plus many more. With her vast experience and knowledge coupled with her deep relationships, Jo’s reputation as one of the UK music industry’s best is well-deserved.

Sara Lord has been in the music industry for the better part of 15 years, working in a variety of roles. She started in artist management working with with artists such as Toploader, Reef, Jimmy Nail, Tom Baxter and Sam Brown. In 2001 she was the youngest ever recipient of the Special Achievement Award at the ‘Music Business Women of the Year Awards’. She also served as producer on the documentary ‘To Notice Such Things’ (BBC).

Secret Road Partners With Communion Records

We're pleased to announce that we will be representing Communion Artists Bear's Den, Gabriel and the Hounds, Joe Banfi, Matthew and the Atlas (Communion Record's first ever signing!), Pale Seas, Pete Roe, Story Books, Three Blind Wolves, & Treetop Flyers with more artists to join the community in the future.

Communion was born in a West London basement bar in 2006, with the help of Ben Lovett (Mumford and Sons), Kevin Jones (Bear's Den) and producer Ian Grimble. Communion quickly grew into a flourishing community of musicians and fans alike, providing an independent platform for the freshest young artists in London's music circuit and beyond. Ben Howard and Michael Kiwanuka are long-time veterans of Communion's live shows, as well as recording artists with the label.

Communion Records was later founded in 2009 with the intent of promoting a close working family of artists who could develop at their own pace. Many of their releases involve Ben, Kevin and Ian in addition to other Communion artists to create the community vibe. Communion continues to prove its reputation as a tastemaker in the music industry also representing Gotye, Daughter and Foy Vance.

Joshua Sarubin Joins Secret Road as Head of A&R/Publishing

LOS ANGELES – Leading music licensing, publishing, and management company Secret Road Music Services is pleased to announce the addition of highly respected music executive Joshua Sarubin. In his newly created role as head of A&R/Publishing, New York-based Sarubin will work with artists and songwriters already on the Secret Road Music Publishing roster as well as signing and developing new writers and artists.

“Josh has great ears, artists love him, and he brings a wealth of experience from both the label and publishing worlds that enhance our mission here at Secret Road," says Secret Road founder/president Lynn Grossman. "His addition ensures us the ability to offer the same level of personal attention to our artists in the publishing realm that we provide in licensing and management."

Sarubin's A&R experience includes stints at Columbia, Arista and Island Def Jam. Most recently he served as Vice President of A&R at Sony ATV Music Publishing. Among the acts he has signed or worked with are Avril Lavigne, Pink, Santana, Presidents of the United States of America, Lionel Richie and Lady Gaga.

Since Grossman founded Secret Road in 2007, the company has launched the career of platinum-selling, indie pop artist Ingrid Michaelson and has grown to represent more than 80 artists and a catalog in excess of 4,000 songs for licensing. The company is unique in that it offers clients a one-stop shop by instantly clearing both mechanical and synchronization rights.
